- 10:00 AM7h 30mIndigenizing Museums: A Symposium with Artists and CuratorsTalks and discussions will delve into the ongoing process of Indigenizing gallery spaces, institutions, and regions through the ethical celebration of Indigenous artwork, voices, and stories. Speakers will discuss their artistic and curatorial practice, their approaches toward asserting Indigenous identity through art, and practical advice and suggestions to artists and museum professionals who are undertaking this critical work. The day will be divided into three panels, each followed by a moderated roundtable discussion with a question-and-answer period. Raclin Murphy curators and Notre Dame faculty will serve as moderators. This symposium—free and open to all—is made possible through generous funding from the Terra Foundation for American Art. Attend any or all symposium events as your schedule permits. - 1:00 PM1hMeet Your MuseumThis drop-in tour will introduce you to your new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Join a student gallery teacher or a member of the Museum staff to explore the architecture of the building through some of its most unique spaces, revisit familiar favorites from the collection, and discover works of art on view for the first time. Meet at the Welcome Desk. No registration is required, but each tour is limited to twenty participants. This tour will explore all gallery levels of the Museum. - 1:30 PM1h 15mSolo Piano Recital by Mackenzie MelemedIndiana Music Teachers Association (IMTA) is proud to present our State Conference Guest Artist, Mackenzie Melemed, in a solo piano recital: 7:30 PM, Friday October 4th, Little Theatre, Moreau Hall, Saint Mary’s College, South Bend, Indiana.Recipient of the 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant, 29-year-old American pianist Mackenzie Melemed is one of the most celebrated and experienced performers of his generation. Melemed completed three degrees (Bachelor, Master, Artist Diploma) at the Juilliiard School. He has performed at The White House five times, and at the age of 5 he appeared on the Rosie O’Donnell Show as one of her youngest guests ever. In recent years, his awards have included the following: 2021 American Pianist Award, 2019 Jade Medal at the China International Music Competition, 2019 Juilliard’s Leo B. Ruiz Carnegie Hall Recital Prize, 2018 Arthur Rubinstein Prize, 2017 1st Prize and Chamber Music Prize at Maj Lind International Piano Competition, and 2016 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. Mackenzie’s program includes the following repertoire: Partita No.1 in B-Flat Major BWV 825 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Impromptus Op.5 by Robert Schumann, Funérailles by Franz Liszt, Sonata 1.X.1905 by Leoš Janáček, Variations on a Theme of R.
