- 9:30 AM30mMass in the Mary, Queen of Families ChapelCelebrate the Feast Day of St. Luke, patron saint of artists, in the Mary, Queen of Families Chapel on Friday, October 18, from 9:30–10:00 a.m. Led by Fr. Martin Lam Nguyen, C.S.C., professor of studio art at Notre Dame, this opportunity to worship amidst site-specific installations offers an opportunity to reflect on the connection between liturgy and the arts. This Mass will be particularly significant, as the Mary, Queen of Families Chapel houses relics of St. Luke. Following the Mass, we will offer a ten-minute guided exploration of a work of art on view featuring themes connected to the life and mission of St. Luke. - 1:00 PM1hMeet Your MuseumThis drop-in tour will introduce you to your new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Join a student gallery teacher or a member of the Museum staff to explore the architecture of the building through some of its most unique spaces, revisit familiar favorites from the collection, and discover works of art on view for the first time. Meet at the Welcome Desk. No registration is required, but each tour is limited to twenty participants. This tour will explore all gallery levels of the Museum. - 4:00 PM1h 30mStories & Images: An Opportunity for Educators with Author and Illustrator Duncan TonatiuhFree, but registration is required. Open to all pre-K-12 teachers. Limited to 30 teachers. Join us to celebrate the work of award-winning picture book author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh. Tonatiuh will share his journey to becoming an author and illustrator, explore the role picture books with diverse representation can play in today's classrooms, and discuss visual literacy and the unique way that picture books help students develop this critical skill.
