Join us for an evening with the legendary pioneer in college athletics, former University Vice President & James E. Rohr Director of Athletics, Jack Swarbrick. Maria Wainscott, a senior in the Sport, Media and Culture minor, In-Game Stadium host, and a Fighting Irish Media sideline reporter, will interview Jack Swarbrick, athletic director emeritus, about the major changes in college sports that occurred during his tenure at Notre Dame and his proudest accomplishments as director of athletics.  The evening’s discussion will include topics such as Name, Image, and Likeness at Notre Dame; the dawn of streaming services and social media in college athletics. Only eight can make it.A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of 17 dancers, all vying for a spot in the "chorus line" of a Broadway musical. Born from real-life testimonies, audiences are allowed a glimpse into the lives of professional dancers as they bare their hopes, dreams, and ambitions on stage.A Chorus Line was conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Micheal Bennett, with a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and co-choreographed by Bob Avian. The Department of Art, Art History & Design presents the annual Art History Symposium. Clare Barloon and Kendra Lyimo will present research from their honors thesis. The keynote speaker is Antawan I. Byrd, Northwestern University.This lecture examines how sound technologies and photography mutually mediated ordinary engagements with struggles for decolonization in Africa during the mid-twentieth century. The Department of English is pleased to announce that its 2024 Joseph M. Duffy Lecturer is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. A conversation between Jacobs-Jenkins and Chanté Mouton Kinyon, assistant professor of English, will take place on Wednesday, April 24. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is a Brooklyn-based playwright and producer and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist. Recent theatre credits include Appropriate (currently running on Broadway), The Comeuppance (Signature Theatre), Girls (Yale Rep), Everybody (Signature Theatre), War (Yale Rep; Lincoln Center/LCT3), Gloria (Vineyard Theatre), Appropriate (Obie Award; Signature Theatre), An Octoroon (Obie Award; Soho Rep, Theatre for a New Audience), and Neighbors (The Public Theater). He was showrunner, executive producer, and writer for HULU/FX’s drama series, Kindred, based on Octavia E. Butler’s groundbreaking novel. He currently teaches at Yale University and serves as vice president of the Dramatists Guild council and on the boards of Soho Rep, Park Avenue Armory, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, and the Dramatists Guild Foundation. Honors include a USA Artists fellowship, a Guggenheim fellowship, the MacArthur fellowship, the Windham-Campbell Prize for Drama, and the inaugural Tennessee Williams Award. Chanté Mouton Kinyon is assistant professor of English at the University of Notre Dame. Kinyon’s primary research explores transnational Black American literature and culture, with a particular interest in the way in which Black American culture and literature intersects with Irish culture and literature. Musician and activist BL Shirelle is the co-executive director of FREER Records, the first non-profit record label for prison-impacted musicians in the United States. In this presentation, Shirelle will discuss the richness of prison music, past and present.
