- Sep 1612:30 PMLecture: "Apex Corruption Erodes Democratic Values"Enrique SeiraKellogg Institute Faculty FellowJoe and Deborah Loughrey Professor of Economics We complement a field experiment with cross-country evidence to show that exposure to apex corruption— corrupt acts implicating top-level politicians—causes large decreases in democratic values and associated behaviors. Behaviors such as individual voter turnout, contributions to support elections, and honesty and trust in incentivized games all fall. The effects on voting are greatest for incumbents perceived to be honest when apex corruption is exposed close to elections. We show, both experimentally and across scandals in 17 national settings, that apex corruption also reduces explicit support for democracy in favor of authoritarianism. We test two restorative solutions. Sponsored by the Kellogg Institute at the Keough School of Global Affairs. https://events.nd.edu/events/2025/09/16/apex-corruption-erodes-democratic-values/

- Sep 164:00 PMPersonal Digital Preservation BasicsOur photos, recordings, and paper documents are a vital link to the past, and the information we create today has the same value. The only difference is that much of it is now digital. Chances are that you want to keep some digital photos, videos, and other files so that you—and your family—can look at them in the future. This workshop will provide some resources and high-level tips on how to plan for backing up and organizing your own personal digital materials in order to preserve your “born digital” information and make it last for future generations. Prerequisite(s): This lesson assumes no prior knowledge of the skills or tools Open toGraduate Students, Undergraduates, Faculty, Staff, Postdocs https://www.library.nd.edu/event/personal-digital-preservation-basics-2025-09-16/
