10 Years After Laudato si’: Faith, Anthropocene, and Justice in the Global South

Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical on care for our common home, Laudato si’, offers both a stark portrait of the current global environmental reality and an urgent call to action. Climate change and environmental devastation have an outsize impact on communities in the Global South, but many of these communities are also at the forefront of developing strategies for resilience.On April 25, 2025, University President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., moderated a conversation with with Church leaders Cardinal Pedro Ricardo Barreto Jimeno, S.J., and Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, on how the Anthropocene epoch changes the way we think about justice, the planet, the Church, and what we owe one another. The event was part of the 2024-25 Notre Dame Forum series on the theme, “What do we owe each other?”
