The fern-leaf beech is a variety of the European beech. Its leaves are deeply serrated, unlike any other beech tree, and give it a willowy appearance. Many are surprised this tree is a beech because the leaves are so unique and different from other beech tree leaves. The smooth silver-gray trunk, however, gives away that it is a beech.
