Subhash L. Shinde elected 2024 MRS Fellow

Subhash L. Shinde, associate director in the Center for Sustainable Energy (ND Energy) at the University of Notre Dame was named a 2024 Materials Research Society (MRS) Fellow.
This prestigious recognition honors Shinde for his pioneering contributions to cutting-edge materials science and engineering research through leadership in advancing microelectronics packaging, 3D microsystems integration, concentrating solar technologies, and dedicated and impactful services to the MRS community. His research activities span from his tenure at IBM’s Research and Microelectronics Divisions and then at Sandia National Laboratories to his current activities at the University of Notre Dame. His research has resulted in a new product line at IBM, 3D integrated microelectronics solutions for state-of-the-art experiments (e.g. imagers for high energy physics) at Sandia, and contributions to research projects at Notre Dame. Shinde also served as a co-Chair of the MRS Spring 2019 Conference and on multiple MRS committees, and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the MRS Bulletin.
The MRS Fellows program celebrates members who demonstrate distinguished research accomplishments and outstanding contributions to advancing materials research worldwide. With a maximum of 0.2% of the current MRS regular membership appointed as fellows each year, the distinction is highly selective.
Recipients of the MRS Fellows Award are featured on the MRS Website and in the MRS Bulletin, showcasing their exceptional achievements to the global materials science community. Shinde and fellow honorees will be recognized formally during a special event at the 2024 MRS Spring Meeting in Seattle, Washington on April 25, 2024.
Shinde’s elevation to MRS Fellow exemplifies his commitment to cutting-edge research and development and that of the organizations where his research was accomplished – IBM, Sandia National Laboratories and University of Notre Dame. His research and development activities advance the frontiers of materials research in the National Interest and align with Notre Dame’s dedication to grow, strengthen, promote, translate, and safeguard research, scholarship, and creative endeavor globally.
