On January 16, 2025, the University of Notre Dame’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (OMVA) participated in a special event at Naval Submarine Base New London, highlighting its ongoing commitment to supporting service members and veterans. The event featured a screening of the OMVA’s mission video and a spotlight on Eric Goins, a remarkable student veteran whose story embodies the ethos of servant leadership.

Eric Goins, a former service member and current dual MBA/MGA graduate student at Notre Dame, has distinguished himself as a leader both on and off the field. In addition to his rigorous academic pursuits, Goins walked onto the University of Notre Dame football team, further demonstrating his resilience and dedication. His inspirational journey reflects the transformative opportunities available to veterans through higher education at Notre Dame.

The event brought together service members, veterans, and partners to explore pathways to success as veterans transition to civilian life. Goins’ story underscored the value of education and leadership in empowering veterans to achieve their goals.

This event also showcased the strong collaboration between the University of Notre Dame’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs and Service to School (S2S), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans transition into higher education. Together, these partners are committed to providing service members with the guidance and resources needed to achieve academic and professional success. The University expressed its gratitude to Service to School and its CEO, Alec Emmert, for the opportunity and their shared dedication to empowering veterans and creating pathways to opportunity.

Together, these efforts ensure a clear pathway toward higher education and leadership opportunities for our nation’s veterans.
