For this sixth installment of our yearlong celebration, we welcome Presidential Inaugural Poet and National Humanities Medal recipient, RICHARD BLANCO. He will be joined by RIGOBERTO GONZÁLEZ, award-winning writer, editor, and critic, whose most recent book, Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology, we will also be celebrating. Special guest SUSANA PLOTTS-PINEDA, from the Library of America, will be on hand to speak about this ground-breaking volume. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Reception to follow. - 7:00 PM1hInvisible Player: Rosemary Sanders and American SymphoniesInvisible Player – Rosemary Sanders and American SymphoniesWednesday, October 16, 20247 p.m.The story of Rosemary Sanders, the first African American musician in the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, as well as the history of African American musicians in symphonies across the United States, will be told through a documentary trailer being produced about these topics. Following the 15-minute video will be a panel discussion that includes Helen Ursery-Binion, RN, BSN, MSN, who is the daughter of Rosemary Sanders; Marvin Curtis, Ed.D.; Justus Zimmerman, Executive Director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra; and Kristie Erickson, Deputy Executive Director of The History Museum. The exhibit Invisible Player will be on view. Self-guided tours of the Worker’s Home, now interpreted as the home of a 1950s African American family, will be available from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Admission is $5/general; $3/members.
