Many of us struggle to pronounce names that sound foreign to us and attempting to do so can make us feel uncomfortable or nervous. In such a situation, we may ask use another "easier" name, a nickname, or even avoid addressing the person at all. Unfortunately, doing so can lead to the person feeling invalidated, excluded, and otherized. This workshop aims to help participants develop understanding and empathy for our peers, students, and ourselves. By the end of the hour, you'll have new context to make meaning of naming phenomena, tangible linguistic knowledge and skills to help you more confidently and accurately pronounce Korean names, and some take away resources for you to continue to practice on your own. This drop-in tour will introduce you to your new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Join a student gallery teacher to explore the architecture of the building through some of its most unique spaces, revisit familiar favorites from the collection, and discover works of art on view for the first time. Meet at the Welcome Desk. No registration is required, but each tour is limited to twenty participants. This tour will explore all gallery levels of the Museum. Although the tour will keep moving between spaces, gallery stools are available upon request.
