If you are a faculty or staff member who is currently caring for an aging parent, a spouse or relative, or child with special needs, please consider joining the Caregivers Support Group, which meets monthly from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in 301 Coleman-Morse Center. Fall semester meetings will be held on October 23, November 20, and December 18.

The goal in any mentoring relationship is for the mentee to achieve independence and defining whatindependence looks like in a particular field and at various career stages is essential. Professional developmentactivities are critically important to developing independence and to your long-term success. This session isdesigned to provide scholars the knowledge and skills to: 1) identify the benefits and challenges of achievingindependence; 2) understand how the core element of independence change over the course of a mentoringrelationship; 3) learn how to define the professional development needed and find opportunities; and 4)balance the competing demands, needs, and interests of mentors and mentees. This 3-session body acceptance workshop supports students in directly challenging the cultural messages that appearance should fit within a narrow set of “ideals” that exclude diverse bodies based on race, gender, sexuality, and ability. Join us in celebrating the launch of Charles W. Powell's book Southern Baptists and Muslims: A Path to Dialogue through Narrative Empathy with a brief reading from Charles himself as well as opening remarks from Ansari Faculty Fellow, Daniel Philpott. Charles Powell will be introduced by Daniel Phillpott, an Ansari Institute faculty fellow who is a professor of poltical science at Notre Dame who specializes in religion and global politics.
