- 1:00 PM1h 55mFilm: "Popeye" (1980)Professor Pfinklepfunder's $1 Sunday FilmsDirected by Robert AltmanWith Robin Williams, Shelley Duvall, Paul L. SmithRated PG, 114 minutes, Blu-rayWhen one thinks of comic book adaptations as we know them now, one wouldn't quickly imagine a director like Robert Altman pulling Popeye IP for a live-action musical. By golly, though, they cast Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl (natural fit) and Robin Williams as Popeye (less natural fit) and made a movie that a lot of people hated. The film unraveled Altman's career, which took years to recover. Today, though, there is more interest in and love for the film, which is a bit of a road not taken with comic book adaptations, as well as bizarre fun for people giving it fresh eyes. GET TICKETS

- 4:00 PM2h 15mFilm (and Panel Discussion to Follow): "The Swimmers" (2022)Films to Talk AboutDirected by Sally El HosainiWith Nathalie Issa, Manal Issa, Ahmed MalekRated PG-13, 134 minutesIn English and Arabic with English subtitlesPanel discussion to follow!A scene many parents and kids know well: a youth swimming competition that pulls together striving athletes and the families who cheer them on. Here, though, the competition is in Syria, and bombs are exploding literally both outside and inside the sports facility. The juxtaposition between childhood sports and war is one often used to illustrate lost innocence, and The Swimmers moves that genre forward by telling the true story of Yusra Mardini, whose drive to compete in the Olympics pushes her and her sister out of Syria. At the cross-section of a biopic and the refugee experience, The Swimmers also allows for an experience to reflect on forced determination, success, and the fallout of state violence. GET TICKETS *This is a free but ticketed event. To guarantee your seat, please pick up your tickets at least 15 minutes prior to the show, at which point your unclaimed tickets may be used to seat patrons waiting on standby. Tickets will be available for pick-up at the Ticket Office beginning one hour prior to the performance. **Co-presented by Neighbor 2 Neighbor.
