Here you can stroll around the Oscar Wilde sculpture, and take a walk in the park. Stop anywhere to enjoy the views and the sounds while we say a little more about the Hesburgh Libraries' collections.
Oscar Wilde Childhood Home
The famous Wilde Family lived on Merrion Square in the nineteenth century. Notre Dame’s students of folklore may encounter the writings of William Wilde and his wife, Lady Jane Wilde, or Speranza, but it is the famous son, Oscar Wilde, whose statue sits on Merrion Square. Among the works of Oscar Wilde in our library is a particularly attractive edition of The Happy Prince and Other Stories, illustrated by Walter Crane and Jacomb Hood.
