With over 7,000 miles between them, the University of Notre Dame and Kathmandu University (KU) in Nepal stand a world apart, geographically. Take a closer look, though, and you will notice a few surprising similarities. Both are situated in and around sacred spaces and architecture, for example. At Notre Dame, more than 60 chapels and the iconic Basilica of the Sacred Heart reflect the University's Catholic identity. Kathmandu, the “City of Temples,” is home to thousands of religious structures and shrines that make it a key pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
On an assignment to Nepal, Notre Dame’s Joanne D. Fahey explored commonalities in an additional area: research communications.
