A perennially popular event featuring community members of all ages from the South Bend area performing scenes from and inspired by Shakespeare, ShakeScenes provides two hours of adorable, moving, and hilarious entertainment. This series is a successful partnership bringing a tradition usually found in large city centers to this thriving urban environment in the heart of South Bend. Screenings are free to the public and held at the Gridiron at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m. – weather permitting). Viewers are invited to bring their picnic blankets, chairs and snacks. This drop-in tour will introduce you to your Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Join a student gallery teacher or a member of the Museum staff to explore the architecture of the building through some of its most unique spaces and discover works of art that are highlights of the collection. Meet at the Welcome Desk. All are welcome and no registration is required. This tour will explore all gallery levels of the Museum. Although the tour will keep moving between spaces, gallery stools are available upon request.

Check out the newest StoryWalk® in Michiana! We’ve partnered with the St. Joseph County Public Library to bring this exciting national project to the Charles B. Hayes Family Sculpture Park from July 1–September 2. StoryWalk® combines experiencing nature with reading together as a family. Our StoryWalk® will explore the book What’s New Daniel? by Micha Archer. Read together, do fun activities, and enjoy the art and nature of the Sculpture Park! The story begins off the Hiler Family Terrace behind the Museum near Clement Meadmore’s sculpture UPBEAT (look for a black sculpture that looks like it’s dancing at the start of a path into the Sculpture Park) and continues east on a paved, gently sloping path. Parking is available in the Visitor Lot immediately north of the Sculpture Park for a fee during the week (before 4:30 p.m.). Free two-hour parking is available in the Eddy Street Commons Parking Garage or along Angela Blvd. After 4:30 p.m. and on weekends, parking is free and available in any non-gated lot. If traveling via South Bend Transpo, take the No.7 bus and use the stop for Eddy St. Commons (at the intersection of Angela & Eddy St). The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and was developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, VT. During this four-day workshop, young artists will explore works of art from a variety of Museum collections through close looking, conversation, and time creating in the studio. Over the week, they will develop personal connections with works of art, each other, and their art museum. This workshop is designed for children ages 9 to 12.
