A genre-bending, quasi-documentary about the true story of Spencer Reinhard, Warren Lipka, Eric Borsuk and Chas Allen, who were four friends living an ordinary existence in Kentucky. After a visit to Transylvania University, Lipka comes up with the idea to steal the rarest and most valuable books from the school's library. As one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history starts to unfold, the men question whether their attempts to inject excitement and purpose into their lives are simply misguided attempts at achieving the American dream. In a series of tableaux that blend the tactile with the abstract, The Color of Pomegranates revives the splendors of Armenian culture through the story of the eighteenth-century troubadour Sayat-Nova, charting his intellectual, artistic, and spiritual growth through iconographic compositions rather than traditional narrative. The film's tapestry of folklore and metaphor departed from the realism that dominated the Soviet cinema of its era, leading authorities to block its distribution, with rare underground screenings presenting it in a restructured form. A familiar name to any grade school library, E.B. White tried his hand at children's literature and came out of the gate with two bangers: Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web. The latter is often cited as the best children's book of the century — if not of all time — perhaps because its adaptations, including a curious 2006 video game, have never overshadowed the book itself. Possibly best known of those adaptations is this 1973 cartoon that followed the spectacular Wilbur (Henry Gibson) as he finds his way through barnyard politics and tricky spots with the assistance of Charlotte (Debbie Reynolds), a caring and literate spider.
