Crucifix Walk

This tour was the Crucifix Initiative's 2025 Lenten Walk. We welcome you to take the tour any time, but please be aware that some rooms may not be accessible after building hours or when classes are in session.

Welcome to the Notre Dame Crucifix Initiative's Lenten Walk! In celebration of Lent, we invite you to explore a unique part of Notre Dame’s spiritual and artistic heritage. This tour highlights some of the University’s remarkable collection of crucifixes. Each crucifix has a story and reflects Notre Dame's Catholic roots, artistic traditions, and global connections.

As you walk through campus, you’ll visit some of the most significant crucifixes, learning about their history, craftsmanship, and the spiritual meaning they hold for the Notre Dame community. This 45-minute tour begins in the Main Building and continues through O’Shaughnessy Hall, Malloy Hall, Decio Faculty Hall, and DeBartolo Hall. For those interested, there is a tour extension to Jenkins & Nanovic Hall that features four more excellent crucifixes.
