About the Data Haiku Contest Write a haiku about data! Your haiku must be related to data in some way (e.g., data management, processing, sharing, preservation, reuse, etc.). The contest is open to current Notre Dame students and employees. One submission per person. Submissions are due by noon on Friday, February 14. What is a Haiku? Haikus have a rigid structure of 17 syllables divided across three lines. The first line should have five syllables, the second line should have seven syllables, and the third line should have five syllables. Haikus do not need to rhyme. Haiku Example Title: PreprocessingCleaning, reducingand ignoring outliers.Only one case left. Author: Arnon Hershkovitz Prizes Three winners will receive an "I Love Data" coffee mug. The AAHD Gallery is excited to present Second Chances, an exhibition showcasing new works by second-year MFA students in Studio Art and Design. Featured artists include Lily Dorian (sculpture), Heidi Dargle (visual communication design), Franceska Alvarado (painting and drawing), Lucy Schultz (industrial design), and Olivia Koziel (photography). A gentle introduction to Python and the NLTK; learn how to compute against your readings. Python is a popular programming language for doing text mining and natural language processing. The Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK) is a very popular suite of Python modules, making the process of text mining easier. This workshop is a gentle introduction to Python and the NLTK. It will demonstrate some of the Toolkit's functionality. By the end of the workshop, you will have dipped your toe into the waters of Python and been exposed to the inner workings of the NLTK. Learn how to use Zotero — an open-source research tool for creating bibliographies. The open-source Zotero research tool allows scholars to create bibliographies easily, but its capabilities also extend to broader areas of research management, note-taking, and sharing research. Participants will learn how to directly import catalog and journal records into Zotero, attach PDFs and other files, create notes, organize projects, and back up research online. Please bring your own laptop or borrow one from the 1st Floor Circulation Desk.
