Today, it's often cited as one of Orson Welles best pictures despite the tumultuous relationship he had with the studio during filming. Set along the border between Mexico and the United States, the story revolves around an American police captain, Hank Quinlan (Welles), who is investigating a bombing that may have been a set-up. As Quinlan's increasingly unethical methods are uncovered, Mexican narcotics officer Mike Vargas (Charlton Heston) must navigate a tense, morally ambiguous landscape to seek the truth and justice.
