Statue of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh
Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh is arguably the most beloved man in Notre Dame history, apart from Father Sorin. Father Ted was president of Notre Dame for 35 years, serving one of the longest and most distinguished terms in American higher education. His impact at the university level and at the global level is tremendous. Living a life committed to serving others, Father Hesburgh fought for human rights around the world. Much of what Notre Dame is today can be attributed to the work of Father Ted during his presidency.
