Introduction

Rev. Edward Sorin Edward Sorin, a French priest from the Congregation of Holy Cross, arrived here in 1842 accompanied by seven religious Brothers from France and Ireland. Here, he founded the University of Notre Dame du Lac. This University, Sorin predicted, would become “a powerful force for good”- and so it strives to be to this day.

With more than 170 years of existence, our University has a long and rich history that we invite you to explore. We will guide you through major landmarks, events, and people that made this University the world-famous institution that it is today.

This tour is structured in stops, with each having:

  • Overview

  • Today
  • Highlights
Enjoy your visit!

This tour was created by Notre Dame students Kevin Wilkins and Ryan Sweeney.
