Spanning 20 departments, the College of Arts and Letters plays an integral role in the University’s mission to serve as the world’s preeminent Catholic research university. Arts and Letters faculty are at the forefront of fields as wide-ranging as development economics, philosophy of religion, quantitative psychology, and sacred music, and the College houses the largest contingent of medievalists in North America. Leading the nation in National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships, the total number of faculty awarded major national fellowships in the arts, humanities, and social sciences places Notre Dame among the top five private research universities in the United States.
