ND alumnus Justin Farrell (sociology PhD, 2014) was selected as one of three new members of the Pontifical Academy of the Social Sciences. Founded by John Paul II with the motu proprio Socialium scientiarum (1994), the Pontifical Academy of the Social Sciences promotes the study and progress of the social, economic, political and juridical sciences according to the social doctrine of the Church. Made up of a variable number of members (between 20 and 40), chosen from all over the world without distinction of religion, it is based in the Vatican and works in close relationship with the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
