ACMS Welcomes New Faculty

Tiffany Tang joined the Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) as a Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor. She received a B.A. in Statistics and a B.S. in Mathematics from Rice University, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley. Tang’s research is primarily problem-driven and lies broadly at the intersection of statistics/data science and medicine. Currently, her research focuses on (1) developing interpretable statistical machine learning methods to extract actionable and reliable insights from real-world data, (2) ensuring transparent and responsible use of AI in healthcare while in close collaboration with domain scientists, and (3) creating open-source tools and software to facilitate community-wide use and adoption of reliable data science in practice.

Soham Jana will join the Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) as an Assistant Professor in August 2024. Jana received a B.Stat and an M.Stat (specializing in Theoretical Statistics) from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India, in 2015 and 2017, respectively. He received a Ph.D. in the Department of Statistics and Data Science from Yale University in 2022, advised by Prof. Yihong Wu. Afterwards, he joined Princeton University as a postdoc in the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering, hosted jointly by Prof. Sanjeev Kulkarni and Prof. Jianqing Fan. Jana's research interests include statistical machine learning, high-dimensional and non-parametric statistics, mixture models, and robust decision-making.
