Designed to help children develop their visual and verbal literacy skills, Artful Storytime is a partnership with the St. Joseph County Public Library. Each Artful Storytime includes stories, songs, artwork explorations, art-making, and more! This month, we’re putting our best foot forward and focusing on fancy footwear. It will be a perfect fit for everyone! This program is best for families with children ages 4 to 6. Parking is available in the Visitor Lot immediately north of the Sculpture Park for a fee during the week (before 4:30 p.m.). Free two-hour parking is available in the Eddy Street Commons Parking Garage or along Angela Blvd. After 4:30 p.m. and on weekends, parking is free and available in any non-gated lot. Join us for Open Studio, a monthly drop-in program designed to help you connect with your creative side. This program encourages participants to engage—in guided or freestyle ways—with materials inspired by the themes, techniques, and media of a featured work of art. This summer, we’ll focus on Earth Kid (Boy) by Yinka Shonibare. Each month there will be a different project, allowing for new ways to connect with this work. Our Studio Host will be available to guide you through the month’s project or support you in your own creative endeavors. All materials are provided. Check out the newest StoryWalk® in Michiana! We’ve partnered with the St. Joseph County Public Library to bring this exciting national project to the Charles B. Hayes Family Sculpture Park from July 1–September 2. StoryWalk® combines experiencing nature with reading together as a family. Our StoryWalk® will explore the book What’s New Daniel? by Micha Archer. Read together, do fun activities, and enjoy the art and nature of the Sculpture Park! The story begins off the Hiler Family Terrace behind the Museum near Clement Meadmore’s sculpture UPBEAT (look for a black sculpture that looks like it’s dancing at the start of a path into the Sculpture Park) and continues east on a paved, gently sloping path. Parking is available in the Visitor Lot immediately north of the Sculpture Park for a fee during the week (before 4:30 p.m.). Visio Divina, or “sacred seeing,” is an ancient form of Christian prayer in which we allow our hearts and imaginations to prayerfully and meditatively enter into an image. Join us for guided sessions of visio divina with sacred art in the Mary, Queen of Families Chapel. This opportunity is a wonderful way to spiritually engage with this unique, art-filled space. Whether you are new to the practice of visio divina or a long-time devotee, all are welcome for a moment of peace, prayer, and meditation. Meet at the Welcome Desk on Level 1. Always free and open to all.
