Recycling
How do I recycle on campus?
Notre Dame uses a single-stream recycling system, making it easy to recycle paper, metal cans, plastic bottles and containers, and glass. All recyclable materials are collected via blue recycling toters located throughout campus buildings, while gray carts are used for cardboard recycling. Individuals are responsible for bringing recyclables to these collection points. All recyclable items should be empty, clean, and free of contamination.
What does not go in recycling bins?
  • Batteries or electronics
  • Food or liquid
  • Hazardous material or oils
  • Light bulbs
  • Plastic bags, food wrapping, or film
  • Styrofoam
  • Used tissues, wet paper towels, and broken household items – these go in the trash!
